Marian Adejokun’s Story: Grabbed Back From Death
If God has a plan for your life, death cannot take you away. Marian Adejokun, a teenager from Croydon, can testify to that.
In January 2011, on her way home from college, Marian developed severe pain in her eyes. She used over the counter eye drops from the chemist to help ease the pain. Instead of relief, she ended up in intensive care at the Royal London Hospital for more than three weeks. Her skin peeled off, and blisters covered her from head to toe. She almost died.
The doctors discovered that she had Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) which is a severe adverse reaction to medication. Marian’s mum said, “There were so many blisters on Marian and her skin was just tearing off. I saw death knocking at my daughter’s door, all because of an eye drop. ”
Marian had an allergic reaction that only affects two out of a million people. But Marian and her mom had strong faith. They didn’t give up hope. They put all their trust in God and believed He wouldn’t let death snatch her away.
Marian pulled through and God is using her to reach out to the youths. She wrote about her unbelievable near-death experience in her first book My Life Is Not My Own. Marian is an extraordinary young woman and is passionate about helping her peers.
This is what Marian said about her book, and the reason behind it…
First of all I would like to thank God for giving me this opportunity in my life to dedicate both of my books to the youths. I would also like to thank my mom and everyone else for their prayers and support towards my vision. May God continue to bless and keep you all.
As some of you may know, I have been writing my book titled My Life is Not my Own for the past three years and my second book titled Reachout2all which is a daily devotional. I was led by the Holy Spirit to compose the text messages I send out to everyone into a book.
I was inspired to write my books, when I had a near death experience… having an encounter with God. When I went to heaven, He said, “Marian, it’s not your time to die yet. What I want you to do is to go out into the world and reach out to the youths about the good news in your life.”
This quote is taken from my book which I composed myself. “Be a leader, not a follower. Be the first and not the last. Be above and not beneath. Be a success and not a failure. I have a vision. I’m on a mission. Because that’s my God-given decision.”
During the time, when I was composing my book My Life Is Not My Own, I was faced with challenges as to how and what I would incorporate within it that would transform another person’s life.
After completing the whole book, the Holy Spirit led me to go back and write a chapter titled “The Addiction”. I ask Him, “Lord, why should I title it this way?” He said because you were not born with this addiction. When you read the book you will understand where I’m coming from.
I was also given this empowering bible verse from the book of Acts 20:24. “But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned to me by the Lord Jesus. The work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.”
My books are about reaching out to the youths, to tell them what God has done for me in my life (the good and the bad). More importantly, it’s to give them hope that no matter what trials and tribulations you may be facing, there is always hope in Christ.
My books are relevant to today’s society. Because, in my view, a lot of youths out there are lost not knowing where to turn. By reading my story I believe they will be transformed by the renewing of their minds… focusing more on the positive aspects of life (so turning a negative situation into a positive one). Also, it’s about building up the youths, as we are the next generation. And it’s to help them find their purpose in life to make a difference in one’s life.
This is another quote from my book, which I composed myself. “Turn the pages and have a clean sheet ready to start afresh. Fill your mind with positive things. Accomplish your goals. Leave your past. Turn the page once more and you will thank God for giving you another chance to be a success in life.”
My motto is “Believe in yourself and follow your dreams”.
