5 Basic Virtues Every Christian Needs to Grow Faith
Have you been looking for ways to develop your faith? Are you confused about the word faith? Or are you yet to discover the unlimited access of faith? If that is the case, then this is for you.
A lot of ministers, Christian writers and men of God of different languages have made a lot of effort in defining the word faith. Here are some of the definitions given:
- Faith is a power link between God and man.
- Faith is what determines the beauty and colour of any one’s destiny in the heavenly kingdom.
- Faith is a practical way of showing your confidence in God.
- Faith is an active living force that can turn God’s word into God’s power.
- Faith is what adds substance to your hope.
- Faith is the only way to make God happy.
- Faith is the master-key that has unlimited access to gates.
- Faith is what differentiates Christians among Christians.
- Faith is an operator that unveils solution to problems.
- Faith is a producer of good news.
- Faith is a positive catalyst that speeds up the rate at which God answers.
However, knowing all these things about faith is great. But it is useless if you do not have it in you. Most Christians today are scared to believe what faith can do. Some said it was alive only in the olden days. Some are even scared to grow theirs, while others are fighting to grow theirs.
If you are a Christian scared to believe in the active miracle of faith, please don’t be. And if you are someone who believes that faith is not an active force again, then I want you to know that God does not change. He is capable of anything at any time. He said in his word, “I am the God of yesterday, today and forever. I change not.”
Fortunately, if you are looking for help in growing your faith to a standard that will move the heavens, then you don’t have to be worried any more. Here are 5 basic virtues that will help to grow your Christian faith.
As a Christian, for you to grow your faith you have to know who you are dealing with. Absolute confidence in God is the fundamental way to earn His favours. But the question is, do you really know who God is? Just like our big father Abraham in the bible, he knew who he was dealing with. As a result, his story changed automatically.
What is confidence?
According to the dictionary: Confidence can be defined as the quality of trusting. Some define it as an expression or feeling of certainty. But spiritually, it is defined as an act of trusting God without an atom of doubt.
Here are some references from the bible where confidence activated the power of faith to act.
In the book of Genesis 22, Abraham had total confidence in God to go as far as sacrificing his only son. He was prepared to go all the way, even when his son asked him, “Father, I see we have the coal and the wood for the sacrifice. But father, where is the lamb?’’
Abraham confidently said, “God himself will provide.’’
In the book of Daniel, when Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego were forced to bow down to a god, they refused and were ready for the consequences. The fact is, God saw the confidence in them and waited for them in the furnace.
The Lord is always lifted to do extraordinary things whenever He sees great confidence in his children. Try your possible best to build your confidence in the Lord Almighty.
Do you know that there are lots of unlimited grace and uncommon relief one gets from believing in the lord? But the funny thing is that a lot of Christians today are still confused about their beliefs.
Believing in God is a noble act of telling God that He is in charge of your life totally. In the book of John 11:40, Jesus asked, “Didn’t I tell you that you will see the glory of God if only you believed?’’
For your faith to grow to a level of mega identity, you need to believe in Him totally. Just like the woman who suffered terrible bleeding for twelve years. The bible made it clear that she spent all her money trying to get better. But rather, she was getting worse.
When she heard about Jesus in the crowd, she forced herself in and said to herself, “If I just touch his cloth, I’ll be well.” Can you imagine the instant belief she had in Jesus? And she automatically got healed.
This is one Godly virtue a lot of Christian finds hard to accept. They so much lack the spirit of patience, especially when they are experiencing real trials in life. One thing you should know is that our God is not a magician. He does things and answers prayer at the right time.
Lack of patience made the Israelites get to their promised land in forty years instead of forty days. God is not always pleased with Christians who lack patience.
It was patience that made Abraham the father of many nations. Patience is the key behind success. If you thoroughly watch around you, you’ll notice that most successful people are those with the virtue of patience. It’s like a passbook to prove to God that you are ready for what you are asking.
Many Christians today give up easily, especially when they didn’t realise they were close to an open door. It is a tool used by God to test our faith in Him. Try as much as you can to subscribe to patience, for it’s a measure of faith.
4. Understanding God’s Words
This is one of the most important things you need to do as a Christian, especially when growing your faith in Him. The bible made it clear that the word of God is sharper than any double-edged sword.
Understanding the word is a compulsory step to take when you want to know more about the immortal God you are dealing with. The word of God is a map that guides our daily lives as Christians.
You might have read books from different author or writers, but the word of God is incomparable. Books can only inform you, but the word of God will transform you.
5. Practicing Your Faith
The scripture said in the book of James 2:14 “What good is it for people to say that they have faith, if their actions cannot prove it.’’ Action they say speaks louder than voice.
For your faith to get to that rocking position, you need to put it to practice. The more you practice, the more it grows. Remember that your faith is like a seed planted, needing the entire necessary nutrient to grow well. Try to use all the listed fertilizers above.
